CLASSIFICATION OF MATTER

Matter can be classified in many ways, such as by color, or texture, or even its physical state at room temperature. The following classification of matter scheme is based first on its overall appearance, and then on whether the particular kind of matter can be separated by physical or chemical means.
• Physical separation methods include filtering, evaporating, distilling, decanting, crystallizing.
• Chemical separation methods include heating to decompose a substance and replacement of one element out of a substance by another, more active substance.


CHANGES IN ENERGY

Energy changes and transformations make things happen; Some examples of energy changes making things happen; Stored Solar Energy is the fuel for most living organisms and human made machines; a little bit about Energy and Heat Flow; Some different types of Energy; the First Law of Thermodynamics and other intriguing things you should know about energy; a final example of monkey's, bananas, and energy conversions.


Classification of Energy

Radiant energy or solar energy provides the earth’s heat and light.
Chemical energy is stored in the structures of compounds and released when their structures are changed.
Thermal energy increases the motion of atoms and molecules and provides the mechanism to change phases; for example, heating water in order to produce steam.

DIFFERENT FORMS OF ENERGY:
Kinetic Energy: Kinetic energy is the energy in moving objects or mass. Wind energy is an example. The molecules of gas within the air, are moving giving them kinetic energy.
Potential Energy: Potential energy is any form of energy that has stored potential that can be put to future use.

ENERGY TRANSFORMATION: is the process of changing energy from one form to another. This process is happening all the time, both in the world and within people. When people consume food, the body utilizes the chemical energy in the bonds of the food and transforms it into mechanical energy, a new form of chemical energy, or thermal energy. Energytransformation is an important concept in the application of the physical sciences. The ability for energy to be transformed automates, lights, entertains, and warms the world in an astounding multitude of ways.
